Regenerative Endodontic Procedures

Regenerative endodontic procedures, sometimes referred to as revascularization, are specialized treatments that may be considered for certain immature permanent teeth in children and adolescents when the dental pulp has been damaged by trauma or infection.

When a permanent tooth is still developing, traditional root canal treatment may be challenging because the root walls can be thin and the root tip may not yet be fully formed. Regenerative endodontic treatment is designed to create conditions that may allow continued development and strengthening of the tooth’s root structure.

During treatment, the infected or damaged tissue is carefully managed and the root canal system is disinfected. The procedure then encourages biological healing within the canal space.

Our endodontist carefully evaluates the child’s tooth, stage of root development, extent of infection or injury, and surrounding tissues to determine whether regenerative treatment is an appropriate option.

When indicated, the goal of regenerative endodontic treatment is to eliminate infection, promote healing, and support continued root development while preserving the child’s natural permanent tooth.
