Intentional Replantation

Intentional replantation is a specialized endodontic procedure that may be considered when conventional root canal treatment, retreatment, or endodontic surgery cannot adequately address a dental problem, and extraction would otherwise be necessary.

During intentional replantation, the tooth is carefully removed from its socket, treated outside the mouth, and then repositioned into its original location. This allows the endodontist to directly access and treat areas of the root that may be difficult or impossible to reach using conventional techniques.

This procedure may be considered in carefully selected cases involving persistent infection, complex root anatomy, root resorption, or other conditions where preserving the natural tooth remains a reasonable treatment option.

Our endodontist carefully evaluates each case using clinical examination and advanced imaging, including Cone Beam CT (CBCT) when indicated, to determine whether intentional replantation is appropriate.

The goal is to address the underlying endodontic problem while giving the patient another opportunity to retain their natural tooth.
